| Workout gloves are certainly not necessary but I like them. They serve 3 purposes for me. 1) These keep the knurled part of my barbell from digging into my hands. That is the part of the bar with the criss-cross pattern cut into it so your hands don't slip. 2) The gloves have built-in straps that wrap around the wrists to give extra support or "stiffness" while lifting weights. The end fastens with Velcro. You can't use both workout gloves and wrist straps at the same time. 3) I work out in our garage, so in cold weather, these keep my hands warmer. Steel bars and iron plates get cold! These cost 8 to 12 dollars US at Wal-Mart stores. |
