Making Cable Row handles

Go to a building supply store like Lowes or Home Depot. Select steel chain that will hold at least 400 pounds (I use 800 lb chain). Have a store employee cut two (2) pieces, each 24 inches long - they will do the chain cutting for free. The chains must be the same length!

Still at the same store, in the hardware section near the chain, buy a chain connector like the one in the upper right photo - I suggest one with an 800 pound rating like the one in the photo.

Still at the same store, select a length of iron plumbing pipe with an inside diameter of one inch, at least 14 inches long - they usually sell 36 inch lengths. Have a store employee cut off the threaded end and then cut you two pieces, each 7 inches long. They will cut this for free too, and their cutting machine will also chamfer the ends (take off the worst of the sharp burrs).

Take it all home and put it together as shown in the bottom two photos and you have heavy duty handles perfect for cable rows and all you did was some shopping, all at one store. These handles cost me eleven dollars US and are as good as anything at an expensive gym.

You can see how these handles work for rowing on the cable rows page.
