Barbell Tricep Extensions
barbell tricep extensions
This strengthens the back of your upper arm, called the tricep. These muscles straighten your arms so this improves your ability to push things - like grocery carts, cans across a shelf, a towel when drying off after a shower, etc.

This one does not require a lot of weight to give good results. Lie on your back on a flat weight bench, with your feet flat on the floor and your head hanging mostly off the end of the bench.

Begin with hands close together in an overhand grip - the inside of each hand about 3 to 4 inches from the bar's center point. The bar will be roughly above the top of your forehead.

The elbow is your "pivot point" so hold it in the same place throughout the movement. Especially don't let them move out, further apart from each other. Raise the bar in a natural arc until your arms are almost straight, then bring it back down in the same arc.

Don't lose control of the bar on this or you can break your nose or worse.
