ACCP
American College of Chest Physicians - Doctors may be a Fellow (has passed chest medicine speciality boards) or a Member (has completed specialty training in chest medicine but has not yet passed specialty boards). This is for doctors who specialize in chest medicine, devote most of their practice to their specialty, and are board certified in their specialty. Doctors must have at least 18 months of applied professional experience in their specialty
Board certified - Check your doctor's certification here
An MD has had 4 years of premedical education in a university, 4 years of medical school; and after receiving the MD degree, at least 3 years of specialty training under supervision, called a residency. A subspecialist is a doctor who has completed training in a general medical specialty and then takes even more training in a more specific sub-area of that specialty. Example: cardiology is a subspecialty of internal medicine, and pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery.
Specialty boards certify doctors as having met certain standards. There are 24 specialty boards that are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Remember, a subspecialist first must be trained and certified as a specialist. In order to be certified as a medical specialist by one of these recognized boards, a doctor must: Candidates who passed written and oral (if required) exams and any other requirements are then certified as specialists. A similar process is followed for specialists who want to become subspecialists. Some boards issue certificates for a limited period of time, usually 7-10 years. To retain certification, Diplomates of those boards must re-certify by going through continuing education in their specialty and review of credentials
