I worked for 13 years as an electric welder of metal constructions, mostly for building and other constructions. Later, I worked with computer operated machines. Now, I cannot work anymore; my heart is very sick.
I enjoy working with my computer; it takes my thoughts away from my sick body, so that I can keep in touch with other heart patients. Some people give me such a great support here at the john Website! I have a great passion for motorcycles, music, children and animals. Like the most heart patients, I am obsessed with finding out all that I can about my disease and what I can do to get better. I must live for my two little children; I am their hero and play friend and Dad.
In 1991, I was diagnosed with pericarditis with echocardiography. I took for one year NSAID therapy; Clinoril forte and aspirin. After that year, the cardiologist told me that it was cured. So there was nothing wrong? After months even years of heart problems and pains. I have to go for a ventriculogram and Muga Scan; that was in October, 1996. The results were bad. I had an ejection fraction of 39% and bad contraction of the ventriculs. The muga scan showed that the most parts in my heart had ischemic places, so the doctor said to me, "You have ischemic cardiomyopathy."
I was sent to a cardiology center here in Belgium where the cardiologists did an cardiac catheterization and heart biopsy. There the doctors said, "Sorry, sir, you have Dilated Cardiomyopathy and the biopsy of the ventricles shows hypertrophy." The second heart ventriculogram showed an ejection fraction of 26%. My cardiologist said that's maybe a mistake of the scan? I had months of pain in the chest and abdomen from agina and congestion; nobody seemed to know what I had.
I have palpitations, shortness of breath sometimes, lots of fatigue, pain from agina and congestion in the abdomen, and sometimes irregular heartbeats. My cardiologist says, "Do what you still can do and make the best of it."????

For me, every day is a gift now. I live day by day and maybe if there is no betterment, I will be placed on a list for a heart transplantation. Must I die, I will see you all in heaven, I think.
