I was diagnosed with an enlarged heart, dilated cardiomyopathy, mitral valve prolapse and CHF in February of 1998. I began getting sick in September of 1997. It started out as a cold, then the doctors thought I had asthma. They treated me for bronchitis for 6 months. The lung specialist that I finally was sent to in Febraury, noticed that my heart was growing when he was looking at 2 x-rays I had. Since then, I have seen 2 cardiologists. One is my primary care doctor, who does all my med adjustments and the other who is trying to decide whether or not to give me a transplant.
I had a cath in May of this year and my EF was 17. I am due for a MUGA in January of 1999. Thanks to you guys, I requested to have one done. It sounds like the best way to measure how the heart is really doing. My life since this started has been turned completely upside-down. I am lucky to have a very supportive husband. My 13 year old son is doing amazingly well with this also. I just felt lost and alone until I found this site. I have more good days now than bad , thanks a lot to the meds.
